Harmonized Media Strategy

Media Focus on Africa Foundation (MFAF) is running a harmonized media
campaign focused on this year’s general elections. The campaign seeks to promote objective, unbiased and impartial media coverage and support the objective of achieving free and fair elections and increased voter turnout. As part of the media campaign, MFAF is sponsoring close to 400 voter education radio programmes on 10 radio stations and 30 programmes on three national television stations. The media campaign is focused on key electoral thematic areas of governance and political accountability, ethnicity and nationhood, youth and women leadership, management of electoral process, human rights and rule of law.

Media Focus on Africa Foundation is charged with the responsibility of co-ordinating the harmonised media strategy. This strategy is in support of the Electoral Commission of Kenya and has been commissioned by the UNDP’s Elections Assistance Programme. The strategy has two main goals:
• Ensure that elections are free and fair
• Ensure increased voter turn-out.

Towards the achievement of these goals, the strategy is issue-based, using appropriate mass media platforms to reach out to as many people as possible across the country. Further, the strategy should compliment all other elections related components in the media.

The strategy is to be realised through the following platforms:
