Disability and the Electoral Process
Engagement with disability groups with regard to the electoral process is a reflection of UNDP's commitment to ensure that disability groups are part of the mainstream agenda in all facets of life - political, social, and economic. (more)

Harmonised Media Strategy
Media Focus on Africa Foundation is charged with the responsibility of co-ordinating the harmonised media strategy. This strategy is in support of the Electoral Commission of Kenya and has been commissioned by the UNDP's Elections Assistance Programme. (more)

Media Monitoring
As part of the "The Assistance to the 2007 General Elections in Kenya Programme" the UNDP contracted Strategic Public Relations & Research Limited to conduct the media monitoring component with the overall objective of ensuring enhanced fair and accurate media reporting on electoral issues. This is to be evidenced by improved electoral coverage in terms of balance, accuracy, impartiality and fairness. (more)

Media Results Centre
The Electoral Commission of Kenya is establishing a Media Election Results Centre (MERC) at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). The MERC will commence operation just prior to election day and continue operations until all results for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections have been received and declared. The primary focus of the MERC will be to provide the media and other stakeholders with results and other information on the election.  MERC facilities will include the provision of personal computers with internet access for use by the media and other stakeholders. The MERC will also be utilised for press conferences, announcements and the conduct of pre-election briefings.

Media Training
The media training component is a response to gaps that exist in media houses which need to be addressed in order to improve coverage of the 2007 General Elections. The national media training initiative aims to enhance the capacity of journalists and broadcasters in central regions of the country as well as regional areas in fair, impartial and balanced electoral reporting. Domestic Observation Process
Preparations for the December 2007 general elections in Kenya are in top gear. A key component of the preparatory stage is the organization of effective domestic observation. Domestic observation is crucial in assessing the fairness, transparency and effectiveness of the general elections. Over the years, the work of domestic observation in Kenya has improved the democratization process by inter alia, enabling citizens to actively participate in elections, hold their leaders accountable and improve the electoral process in general. International Election Observation
International election observation is widely accepted around the world. It is conducted by
intergovernmental and international nongovernmental organizations and associations in order to provide an impartial and accurate assessment of the nature of election processes for the benefit of the population of the country where the election is held and for the benefit of the international community. Support to ECK
The Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) is preparing for the 2007 General Election. This particular component of capacity building with the ECK is based upon dialogue with the ECK about its programme, needs, and priorities. (more)

Voter Education for the 2007 Elections
The Electoral Commission of Kenya, with support from the 2007 Joint Donor Assistance Programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are implementing a voter education programme in support of the 2007 General Elections in Kenya. The programme aims to provide Kenyans with information on key aspects of the electoral process and empower them to exercise their rights and responsibilities during the general elections. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with experience in carrying out voter education are undertaking this with the ECK. (more)
